We all have experienced poor leadership and great leadership in our lives. But what, in a few points, describes what the most effective leaders do, every day?
- They create an environment of openness, respect, and “psychological safety”* so that people will speak up….when there’s a problem, an opposing perspective, or an innovative idea to share.
- They eliminate fear, and build trust into the fabric of an organization’s culture, which in turn allows for more productive conversations, creative thoughts, and confidence in tackling issues within the team.
- They are self-aware, transparent, and seek to understand (i.e. listen well!), while maintaining a sense of humor and humility.
- They define, reinforce, and honor the “why” of the organization’s work.
